TESTIMONIALS
When I first started at Body Language, six and half months ago, I wore a size twelve. At present I am happy to say I can comfortably fit into a size four (I’ve lost 25 pounds). I have to say, “Thank You” to both Woody and Valerie for giving me the support I needed to get into shape. With the BODYBARREMETHOD I am still seeing changes in my body. Exercise is a major component in my life now; I am a healthier happier person because of it.

I am 57 years old and I feel the best I have felt in my entire life!
Achy knees, loss of balance, virtually no core, arms or body strength were just a few of the things that ailed me a little over a year ago. I couldn’t even get up off the floor without great difficulty. Through Valerie’s workouts and encouragement, I have lost 20 pounds, have significantly increased my strength and I have exceptional balance. Getting up and off the floor is no longer a big deal. My body has gone through a lot with two bouts of cancer and several surgeries. But, because of Pilates at Body Language, I feel energized everyday.

I have been training with Valerie Compton for years and am happy to share my story with others. For years I went to the gym out of habit, not knowing if what I was doing would get me to the results I dreamed of. I hated going to the gym; it felt like a chore, like something I knew I had to do. For me, the gym was not a place to get away and clear my head, nor was it a place where I felt particularly comfortable. The atmosphere was impersonal and uncomfortable, but I didn’t know any other way of achieving results. Then I met Valerie and she began to teach me new ways of thinking and feeling about my physical fitness. When I began to understand exactly what my body required, my workouts began to change and so did my mind. I began to enjoy activities I never dreamed I could do and do well. I became an athlete, and my workouts were no longer merely workouts; instead, I was training and I loved it! I found myself pushing myself, not because I felt like I had to, but because I could and because it felt good. You see, while I don’t compete and I’m not the fastest or the strongest, for once I feel good about my fitness because it’s about more than mere weight loss when training with Valerie and Woody Compton. At Body Language, physical fitness is a mindset; it’s about training the head, the heart, and the body to achieve results and a personal best. Whether you are an athlete or if you are new to fitness and feeling nervous about getting started, rest assured that you will receive the personal attention you need to achieve your own goals when training at Body Language. Not only do they offer personal attention that cannot be found at any local gym, they foster an environment that is welcoming, encouraging, and supportive. The clients at Body Language support and encourage each other, and they celebrate individual success stories. What’s more, you can feel confident that you are receiving sound and professional information at Body Language. They are knowledgeable, experienced, trained, and seasoned athletes who know how to get results. Whether your goal is to lose weight, run faster, run longer, cycle harder, or become stronger, Valerie and Woody can help you achieve it because physical fitness is as much about mind strength as it is about body strength! Thank you Body Language for helping me to strengthen my mind and my body and change my attitude about becoming physically fit!

I wanted to drop you a note and say Thank You for all your support and guidance with my training this past January thru March. I was able to run my 1st 5K, finish my first Sprint Triathlon (Jay Benson), cycle for Diabetes via Tour de Cure and run and complete my 1st half marathon @ 10,500 feet of elevation (Vallas Calderas) in April,May,and June. I am now living in Princeton NJ working in corporate for 6 months, I am running 3 miles every day and cycling when I have time. I will see you in January, keep a spot for me in the spinning class. I'm finding the BODYBARREMETHOD classes both challenging and effective. Once again, thank you for your support.

The last three months of 2007 were terrible for me. In October, my 72 year old father and his sister, my 75 year old Aunt both died very unexpectedly within two weeks of each other. Then, in November I had a couple injuries that ‘sidelined’ me. As a result of barbequing and drinking all summer and turning to junk food and bingeing for comfort, by the end of 2007 I had gained 30 pounds and was depressed.
With encouragement and support from a friend whom I will call a “Spinning Maniac” because she loves Spinning and seems to participate in that activity almost everyday, and has been trying to get me to try Spinning for a couple years unsuccessfully because I always had an excuse, I participated in the 8-week Spinning Weight Loss class that Woody conducted this winter (January – March 2008). My “Spinning Maniac” friend actually told me that if I signed up for the class she would also, and that is exactly what we did!
Woody spoke with us about heart rate monitors, maximum heart rates, heart rate recovery, resting metabolic rate, calories in / calories out, and diet / behavior change. Most of this was new information for me and I was tempted to balk at it because this was obviously not a quick-fix for the 30 pounds I had gained. It all sounded logical and I quickly became willing to follow Woody’s suggestions because both he and Valerie are living what they teach. We are similar in age and I thought that if they could do it with such commitment and enthusiasm I could at least give 100% effort during this 8-week Spinning Weight Loss class. I also became willing to try new things and was very open to Woody’s coaching, suggestions, and recommended reading.
Heart rate monitor: I bought the cheapest available. Now I can’t exercise without it!
Maximum heart rate: it is part of the ‘numbers game’.
Heart rate recovery:a way to pat myself on the back and a different measurement of success to consider instead of pounds lost.
Resting metabolic rate: now I knew the exact total number of calories I could eat in one day and still lose weight.
Calories in / calories out: this was a no-brainer for me, but I frequently need to be reminded.
Diet / behavior change: another no-brainer, but really helped me get out of my state of denial.
I also discovered that I LIKE Spinning and I have not been able to thank my “Spinning Maniac” friend enough for suggesting we take the class together.
The 8-week Spinning Weight Loss class has ended. I proudly share the “biggest loser” title with Dave, we both lost 14.2 pounds! I continue to attend Spinning classes and also cross-train on other cardio equipment. I follow the recommended food plan / pyramid and I feel like a completely different person compared to eight weeks ago. Don’t get me wrong, this was not easy. It has been a lot of hard work and perspiration. But, if it makes me feel this good, I’m willing to stick with it.
Woody and Valerie, thank you for you, and your BODYLANGUAGE studio! You are wonderful!
